WHEN THE HURLY BURLY'S DONE

"The performances were exquisite, the choreography (by Charlotte Bydwell) superb [...]"
--
Sara Holdren in Vulture's "The Best Plays and Musicals of 2025"
This new play by Richard Nelson was created for an all-female cast at Theater on Pondil in Kyiv, Ukraine. Premiered in the midst of the ongoing war, the play travels back to 1920 and tells the story of Les Kurbas (the founder of the modern Ukrainian theatre) and his troupe of young actors as they perform Macbeth, the first Shakespearean play ever done in Ukrainian. The production was brought to NYC and presented at the Public Theater in the Fall of 2025. Charlotte created the dances for the original production on Zoom and returned to work with the cast when they arrived in NYC. New York Magazine's cultural offshoot, Vulture, named WHEN THE HURLY BURLY'S DONE as #4 in its top ten list of theater pieces for the year. HERE for the full list by Sara Holdren and Jackson McHenry.

Bodies, BONES, Blood: the Last women in america

During a residency at Baryshnikov Arts in April 2025, Charlotte began work on a new dance theater piece alongside playwright Diana Ly. BODIES, BONES, BLOOD follows the journey of four female-identifying archeologists living in a near-future dystopia. They are searching for an artifact that has the power to bolster the oppressive State or to support the rising Rebellion. Each night, the women are haunted by the spirits and memories they are digging up. Eventually, they discover an otherworldly escape route, which leads to fissures in the group as they must decide if it’s better to stay in their reality, or leap into the unknown. Stay tuned for updates as future residencies and performances are announced!
